Hannah Moore, a 2015 Chelsea High School Cum Laude graduate, will play field hockey this fall as goalkeeper at McGill University in Montréal in the Provence of Québec, Canada.

Moore first donned the goalie gear in 2011. Her athleticism, agility, instinct and fearlessness quickly made her an asset to the varsity Washtenaw Whippets of Chelsea — now Chelsea Field Hockey. With the team, Moore stacked up impressive statistics.

In 2012, she prevented 87 goals, “87 saves,” and aided in seven shutouts that led to a Division III championship. A year later, she had 34 saves in Division I with 10 shutouts, aiding the team to its first quarter-finals championship. As a result, Moore was appointed to the All State Michigan High School Field Hockey Association (MHFHA) First Team.

In 2014, she had 42 saves, aided in seven shutouts and a second quarter-final championship and was appointed to the All State MHFHA Second Team.

In addition to playing on her high school team, Moore earned a position as goalkeeper on Pinnacle, a highly-competitive Ann Arbor-based travel team. She participated in regional competitions in Florida, Kentucky and Ohio. Notably, in 2013 and 2014, Pinnacle, with Moore as goalkeeper, won the Northwestern Tournament.

“Hannah took her job as team leader seriously,” says Chelsea Field Hockey Coach Leslie Fry. “She was captain this past year and was known for her remarkable goalie saves and for being, truly, the first line of offense. Hannah consistently gave accurate passes that started the offensive attack in crucial games. She has also been instrumental in training and mentoring a new crop of Chelsea goalie prospects.”

Moore will begin pre-season practices with McGill University’s field hockey team in August. She will be among the 24 percent of international students attending McGill in the fall of 2015.

She is studying English Cultural Studies.

Chelsea Field Hockey was established in 2004 by Coaches Leslie Fry and Roxy Block as Washtenaw Whippets, consisting of Chelsea, Dexter, Saline, Pinckney and Manchester athletes. Significant growth within the MHFHA spurred the development of separate high school teams in Dexter and Saline. Pinckney is in the process of developing a new high school team as well, while Chelsea Field Hockey continues to grow with varsity, junior varsity and middle school teams.
