Ginny and Shelley Wheaton are back again this year serving breakfast, lunch and dinner at the fair restaurant in the building surrounded by flowers.

Ginny and Shelley Wheaton are back with their yummy breakfast, lunch and dinner menu at the 2016 Chelsea Community Fair restaurant inside the Service Center building where the fair office is located.

If you’ve not been there before, look for the large building that’s surrounded by the beautiful flowers.

From Aug. 23-27, the Wheaton’s famous Swiss Steak, Sloppy Joe’s, mac and cheese and roast pork await you. Oh, and don’t miss the spaghetti, either.

So get ready to enjoy dinner specials of Swiss Steak on Tuesday, lasagna on Wednesday, meatloaf on Thursday, spaghetti on Friday and roast pork on Saturday.

And, yes, Kathy “Cakes” Haywood’s homemade cakes and cobblers will be available this year as well, but you’ll need to knock me out of the way if you want to get your hands on her banana spice cake.

They will provide an a la carte breakfast from 7 a.m.-10:30 a.m. during which diners will have a choice of eggs cooked to your liking or French toast or pancakes. There will be sausage, bacon or biscuits and gravy to choose from as well.

Lunch is served beginning at 11 a.m. and dinner specials start at 4 p.m.

Dinner, as well as the daily items like hamburgers or cheeseburgers, hotdogs or grilled cheese are served until 8:30 p.m., but be sure to get there early because you don’t want to miss out on the daily dinner specials.

The daily lunch menu includes a choice of grilled cheese, mac and cheese, grilled hotdogs or hamburgers and French fries. Or perhaps you’d prefer a tuna or egg sandwich on a croissant. And, chips and cookies, and cold drinks and water, too.

There’s something for everyone.

It takes about 25 people to keep everything running smoothly and the Wheatons are looking for volunteers to assist them in the kitchen and in the dining room. It would make a great service project for a community group and a fun way to see folks you don’t run into much during the year because fair is always a place where old friends return to Chelsea and gather.

“We are hoping people will be willing to volunteer for even one shift,” Shelley Wheaton says, so please call 475-0792 or 720-317-9295 and offer a helping hand.

“We’re looking for people to scoop Mac and cheese, make Sloppy Joe’s, serve people, you don’t need to be a cook,” she says, adding you can volunteer for a few hours, a shift or a whole day.

The Fair Restaurant “is a place with air conditioning and seating where you can take a break from all the fun, regroup, and eat a meal that won’t cost you an arm and a leg,” Shelley Wheaton says.

“This whole thing started 20 years ago when Ken McCalla and my mom were talking,” she said, adding that Walt Zeeb used to provide the flowers and she’s carried on that tradition as well.

“We have to have flowers on the tables,” she says, “It’s just not complete without them.”
