Beginning Sunday, the Chelsea Kiwanis Club will be at the hotdog trailer, which faces the main arena at the Chelsea Community Fairgrounds.

Kiwanis members will be serving food from morning ’till night all week long at the 79th annual edition of the fair, which takes place from Aug. 23-27.Kiwanis will be on hand for the special free events on Sunday and Monday as well.

The fair is the club’s largest fundraiser.

Kiwanis has lowered prices on some of our most popular items, as we intend to offer affordable selections for families. We appreciate the support from folks in the area over the past 92 years that the Chelsea club has been here.

That support plus plenty of hands-on service funnels that money back to the community, especially to those groups and efforts designed to help children in Chelsea.

At the last Kiwanis Club meeting, Lisa Nickel from the Chelsea School District gave an informative presentation on the district’s preschool program. She described the methods used to engage the young minds in language, math, and science, exposing them to many different things in the world and getting them to comment on and question them to develop understanding.

Stretching their comfort zones with unfamiliar animals, foods, and social challenges with classmates broadens their horizons. Working with their fine motor skills indoors and large motor skills outdoors develops their bodies. Her program receives support from United Way and some individual sponsors in addition to the school district and Kiwanis.

Partnerships with the Chelsea Senior Center, Chelsea District Library, and Chelsea Area Fire Department and others enrich the learning experience.
