Each February, elementary school students and staff at North Creek and South Meadows participate in a fruit and vegetable challenge with a goal of consuming 10,000 servings of these healthy foods at school during the month.

And, although eating servings of fruits and vegetables at home is also encouraged, these servings don’t count toward the goal.

Throughout the month, students are also involved in discussions about healthy lifestyles. Then, later in the month (this year on Thursday, Feb. 26) students come together at South Meadows for a fun-filled assembly to celebrate their healthy accomplishments and participate in “Teachers’ Olympics” that promotes healthy eating and exercise.

So, if you see any elementary school students this month, ask how their challenge is going and root them on to a healthier lifestyle.
