School isn’t in session yet, but about 200 6th-graders spent Tuesday morning at Beach Middle School learning the ropes at their new school.

Led by about 48 WEB (Where Everyone Belongs) 8th-grade leaders, the newest class at the middle school found their lockers and classrooms, the gym and pool, and, of course, the cafeteria.

This year, the WEB program has a new teacher-member this year — Mike Lott — who, along with Brian Boos and Sarah Bunten spent two days training the 8th grade WEB leaders.

“I’m so incredibly proud of this year’s WEB leaders,” said Beach Principal Nick Angel. “Mr. Lott is a great addition to an already established team of Brian Boos and Sarah Bunten.”

He said WEB has a strong tradition at Beach.

Lott said Tuesday’s orientation was a way “to start the year on a positive note.”

The students took part in team-building exercises and made new friends and Bunten said that the 8th-graders offered the youngest students at the school WEB leaders words of wisdom such as, “Stay organized. Don’t procrastinate. Write your locker combination in your planner. Make good friends. Be kind to everyone.”

“Today puts a smile on my face,” Angel said.
