It’s summer, which means the Pierce Park rock is changing shape every few hours.
Before it was moved to Pierce Park, before people painted the lovely tributes (to births, deaths, birthdays and even philosophical musings) you see on this site in the gallery to the right, even before high schoolers scrawled graffiti on it, the rock existed as a local landmark.
The Chelsea Community Gardens (run by fine folks like the ones at left) is accepting applications for garden plots for 2010. If you haven’t seen the gardens yet, they’re located behind Timbertown; area residents farm them for their own veggies and to provide fresh food to Faith in Action.

A marriage proposal on the rock ends in suspense. Tell us the ending!
The Legacy Land Conservancy and the Michigan Department of Natural Resources yesterday sealed the deal on two property agreements that will add 109.6 acres to Waterloo Recreation Area, including one roughly-72-acre parcel near Chelsea.
One of the most popular features on Chelsea Update is that little updated picture to the right there of what’s on the Pierce Park rock.
Only problem: we haven’t had someone successfully paint the rock in weeks.

The Legacy Land Trust, a non-profit agency that works to preserve farmland and natural areas, is working to preserve four properties that adjoin or are inside Waterloo Recreational Area.
