April 23: Chelsea Kiwanis Club to hear from Phil Boham

(Chelsea Update would like to thank Bob Milbrodt and Jim Randolph for the information in this story.)

On Monday, April 23, the Chelsea Kiwanis Club will hear from Phil Boham, known by many for his work at the hospital and at Huron Valley Ambulance.

On this visit to our club, he will be speaking about his sport-themed work as a sideline official at University of Michigan football games, and a court side official at their basketball games.

His somewhat fly-on-the-wall perspective surely will include some humorous and insightful anecdotes about U of M and visiting coaches and players.

Last week, the club heard from SRSLY. Rebecca Jaskot and two high school students that have been in the substance abuse prevention program for several years gave a thorough and articulate presentation of the mission and history of SRSLY. The two students recently attended a conference in Washington, DC, to hear from experts in the drug problem.

SRSLY, which began in Chelsea, is a nationally recognized program.

Working with St. Joseph Mercy Chelsea and the Police Department, SRSLY will sponsor Prescription Drug Take Back Day. The event is scheduled on Saturday, April 28, from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. at Chelsea Retirement Community. It is an opportunity to turn in your unused or expired medications for safe disposal – free of charge.

Protect our community, children, and the environment by safely disposing of prescription and over the counter medications, including controlled substances such as OxyContin, Vicodin, and Percocet. (Liquids, inhalers, patches, and syringes will not be accepted).

The club meeting begins each Monday at 6:15 p.m. in the St. Joseph Mercy Chelsea Hospital cafeteria, and the speakers begin at about 6:45 p.m. Everyone is invited to the club’s meetings to learn about Kiwanis.
