April 24: Chelsea Kiwanis to hear about Chelsea Update

(Chelsea Update would like to thank Bob Milbrodt for the information in this story.)

This Monday, the Chelsea Kiwanis Club will hear about Chelsea Update, the community’s daily online news site, as it marches toward its fifth year in operation with Lisa Allmendinger as the publisher.

Her readership numbers have grown from a few thousand to many thousands and is still growing.  And each Saturday, Kiwanis Club activities are featured on the site. Lisa is truly committed to the Chelsea community.

At Last Monday’s meeting, Chuck Colby made a presentation. He began his musical career at Michigan State University when a professor needed a last minute replacement for a singing group. The bar was set low with regard to musical talent under the circumstances, he said, so Chuck and some friends figured to give it a try.

They had a lot of fun and received appreciation from the audience, and before long were getting more and more bookings.  Soon they decided to try to make singing a career, and have been successful ever since as Three Men and a Tenor.  Chuck gave a rundown of Dexter’s Encore Musical Theater upcoming productions, including “Into the Wild”, “Camelot”, and “Nine to Five”.

Unfortunately, Conor Ryan was instructed by the doctor to save his voice for his performance in “Into the Wild”, and could not be with us, but Chuck brought along his daughter, who with her musical partner, graced us with a couple wonderful songs.

The club meeting begins each Monday at 6:15 p.m. in the St. Joseph Mercy Chelsea Hospital cafeteria, and the speakers begin at about 6:45 p.m.

Everyone is invited to the club’s meetings to learn about Kiwanis.
