The Chelsea/Dexter CROP Hunger Walk leaders are beginning to plan for the 2016 walk. They will have a meeting on Tuesday April 26 at 5:30 pm at St. Paul United Church of Christ, Chelsea.

Anyone interested in forming a team for this year’s walk, or who wants to help plan the walk is welcome to attend.

Last year’s walk was a large success. For a change, the walk took place in Dexter, and 144 participants raised $24,000, a large increase from the previous year.  Three new organizations participated: St. Joseph Catholic Church, St. Andrew’s UCC, and Webster UCC. CROP Hunger Walks raise money to help poor and hungry people around the world, and 25percent of this walk’s money remains local and benefits Faith in Action.

Faith in Action has one of the teams of walkers. Last year, this team raised $581. This earned them the Golden Sneaker Award, for increasing the amount they raised from the previous year by 52 percent.

Kathie Gourlay, the coordinator of the Chelsea/Dexter walk, presented the Golden Sneaker Award to Faith in Action representatives last month.

This year, the walk will be in Chelsea. As always, it will be held on the first Sunday of October. For more information call 313-268-6537.
