This Memorial Day weekend is a great opportunity to not only enjoy your pet but also improve your mental health.

According to experts, below are a few ways your pet can help:

  1. Dogs (and even cats that like to wear harnesses) can get you outside in the fresh air.
  2. Taking your pet for a walk provides exercise and anytime you can get moving, it helps.
  3. Many doctors report in studies that you can relieve stress by petting your favorite animal.
  4. Cats and dogs not only distract you from your thoughts but also keep you grounded in the present.
  5. Having a pet to take care of reduces loneliness.
  6. As all pet owners know, your favorite animals are non-judgmental.
  7. Pets don’t talk back or interrupt you, rather they listen intently.
  8. Pets provide us with a daily purpose because they need food and water and play time.
  9. And let’s face it, pet are just downright fun to have around.
  10. They are always doing silly things that never fail to make us smile.
