At the Bushel Basket Farmers Market: Meet the Seabury’s from Golden Fleece Farms

Brett and Barb Seabury moved to the Grass Lake area in 1975. They wanted to get into farming, even though they didn’t come from a farming background. They loved the outdoors and animals and wanted their children to participate in 4-H.

Golden Fleece Farm grew out of their love and desire to have good safe food to eat. They grew vegetables and raised all sorts of different kinds of animals including a Sri Llama.

“We wanted to be able to grow and raise as much of our own food as possible to insure that it was wholesome,” they said.

Because their farm had rolling hills, they felt that animals in pastures were better for their land than row crops. “It has always been important to us to have good quality food that is as natural as possible, without hormones and pesticides,” they said.

The couple is involved in many projects including selling naturally raised lamb, pasture raised chicken and they also sell Nigerian Dwarf Dairy goats and are strongly involved in the Grass Fed Beef movement.

In September 2012, they installed a solar system for their farm. It brings electricity for the farm and the installation provides shade for the llama, goats and sheep.

Please visit Golden Fleece at the  Wednesday Bushel Basket Farmers Market. The Seaburys can be found sitting at a table sporting a long list of meat that they have for sale each week. Their booth is halfway down the main isle of the market on the right.
