Aug. 17: Chelsea City Council has 9 items on agenda

Chelsea logo 2When the Chelsea City Council meets tonight, Aug. 17 at 7 p.m. in the new Municipal Building, the elected officials will discuss nine items that include a discussion of four upcoming work sessions.

The City Council plans to have work sessions on economic development, transportation and safety, the lease or sale of the Park Street property next to the Purple Rose Theatre and the possibility of a non-discrimination ordinance.

Dates for these discussions are to be determined.

Next up on the agenda is a request to approve the low bid of about $534,000 for the Safe Routes to Schools contract, which is about 19 percent above the engineer’s estimate, due in part to an increase in trucking and material costs, according to the agenda item explanation.

Among the other business items is Mayor Jason Lindauer‘s recommendation to appoint George Olsen to the city’s Planning Commission and the reappointment of members of the city’s Parks Plan Steering Committee for an additional year, and setting a public hearing for the proposed parks and recreation master plan.

Also up for a vote is a request for a wholesale power purchase and a request to hire two contract line workers for the electrical department.

City Council will also discuss a request to install two wells on vacant properties that are further than 200 feet from the city water supply and a request from the Chelsea Area Historical Society for a special use permit to hold a trunk sale fundraiser on Oct. 15.

City Manager John Hanifan and Chelsea Police Chief Ed Toth will also give reports.
