Aug. 24: Congdon Street reconstruction work to begin

Weather permitting, the Congdon Street construction project is expected to begin on Aug. 24, according to the city’s website.

The contractor selected to do the work, C and D Hughes from Charlotte. Mich., is expected to complete the job by the end of September.

Congdon St. (Lincoln St. to W. Summit St.) will get a full reconstruction to replace the old aggregate roadbed, asphalt pavement, concrete curbs, sidewalks, storm sewer, watermain and water services. This section will be started first.

Congdon St. (W. Summit St. to South St.) will have removal and replacement of asphalt pavement, upgrade of sidewalk ramps at intersections. This section has no underground utility work proposed. Portions of this project will be done at the same time as the southern block of Congdon Street.

There will be temporary closures to traffic, including the southern block of Congdon where the curing time for the new concrete will result in residents having no access to their driveways for 4-5 days. During this time parking will be allowed overnight on the street.

If you have questions regarding this project, please contact Craig McGregor, city inspector, at 734-972-6534.
