Members of Cardinal O’Hara Assembly #0489 of Ann Arbor recently honored their longtime 4th Degree member and former Color Corps Commander Ed Lirette on his 100th birthday in the Towsley Center at the United Methodist Retirement Community.

Lirette was born on Dec. 3, 1916, and became a member of the Knights of Columbus on March 24, 1955, making him one of the longest serving members in the Order and certainly one of our oldest living members. He became a member of the 4th Degree in 1956.

Originally a member of Ann Arbor St. Thomas Council #587, Lirette transferred to St. Louis Guanella Council #3092 ten years ago when he and his wife, Alice, moved to Chelsea.

Members surprised Sir Knight Lirette during his afternoon birthday party, where he was surrounded by his wife Alice, along with their family and friends.

In 2015, the Cardinal O’Hara Assembly came together to build a handicap ramp in Lirette’s garage to help he and Alice get to Mass at St. Mary Parish.
