Keeping it casual on Friday comes at a price for Chelsea State Bank employees. However, it’s one they don’t mind paying because the money ends up going to a good cause.

For a small fee, CSB employees have a green light to wear blue jeans twice a month, and at the end of the year, the money collected is donated to a local charity voted on by participating employees.

This year’s recipient was Faith in Action, which received a donation of $1,112 — a combined collection from both bank branch offices in Chelsea and Dexter. The Chelsea main office collected $862, the downtown office collected $150, and the Dexter office donated $100 for a combined donation of $1,112.

“This fundraising effort is a lot of fun for our employees, yet at the same time, it speaks to the heart of our community bank,” said Jacqueline Schiller, senior vice president at Chelsea State Bank in a press release.

“Because we are the local community bank, it’s important to us to support our local non-profit organizations and to help those in our communities that need extra assistance. I am very proud of our staff for making this happen,” she said.

Faith in Action (FIA) provides assistance and resources for those in need in the Chelsea and Dexter communities. The nonprofit serves the geographical area within the Chelsea and Dexter school districts.

FIA is community funded. Its faith-based assistance and resource center is available to those who need a helping hand. FIA is aided by many business and community groups, as well as many congregational supporters, to become the largest emergency service provider in western Washtenaw County.

Faith in Action was founded in 1980 as an outreach program of St. Barnabas Episcopal Church in Chelsea.

Services provided at the center include an emergency food pantry, free clothing room, financial help with utilities and lodging, counseling, a free health clinic, and holiday and back to school support.

Chelsea State Bank is a full service financial institution with offices in Chelsea and Dexter. The bank was formed over 100 years ago by local business leaders to provide timely financial solutions to individuals, families and businesses in the community. This tradition of community service continues today. Member FDIC.
