The Chelsea boys Golf Team competed in the state tournament at Forest Akers East Golf Course on the campus of Michigan State University, June 5-6th, finishing the tourney 11th in the state.

On June 5, the Bulldogs fired a 315 (their best score of the year), which put them in 10th place after round one.

“I was happy with our score, and we were in 10th place, but we were only 4 shots out of 5th.  On Saturday, as we were hoping to close the gap, 5 costly triple bogies sent us in the other direction.  We avoided any big numbers on Friday, but that was the difference on Saturday, as we shot a 321, to finish in 11th place,” Coach Joe Ewald said.

Scoring for Chelsea on Friday was Sean Lyons and Jacob Hauser with a pair of 78s, Ben Otto with a 79, and Cross Lucas had an 80.

Scoring for the Bulldogs on Saturday was Ben Otto and Jacob Hauser each with a 79, Lucas Derosia shot an 81, and Zach McKinley had an 82.

The Division 2 title was won by Dewitt, with a one shot victory over Bloomfield Hills Cranbrook Kingswood.

“We have not been to the State Tournament in 10 years, so an 11th place finish, caps off a very successful season.  It stung a little bit to back up on the 2nd day, but that gives us motivation, and a goal for next year,” Ewald said.
