Tom Oates set a school record in the 800 with his 1:54.09 time Tuesday at the Larry Steeb Meet of Champions at the Dexter High School Track.

“This breaks one of the oldest school records remaining, set by Cory Brown 25 years ago,” said coach Eric Swager.

In addition, his time is the #1 in Division 2 this year,” the coach said.

Swager called the meet “a hot, but fun way to finish the season.”

“It is a reward for all those who worked hard all year,” the coach said, adding, “We had some very good performances heading into the state meet.”

Shaun Happy and Jimmy Alford ran under 5:00 in the freshman mile and earned medals.

Throwers Ronnie Buford and James Mida earned medals in their final shot put competition.

The 4×800 relay team, and Jensen Holm also earned medals.

Several seniors (Jeremy Northrop, Matt Rosolowski, Liam Hartsuff) had lifetime bests in their final meet, and many others ran lifetime best splits.

“We now fire up for the state championships in Zeeland this Saturday,” Swager said.
