Mason and Tanner Trinkle had a brotherly night to remember on the opening day of the Chelsea Community Fair.

Despite severe weather that caused the cancellation of both the Children’s Parade and the Demolition Derby, the pig show went on as scheduled in the Multi-Purpose Arena.

Mason, a freshman at Chelsea High School, took grand champion individual pig Tuesday night, Aug. 19 with “63”. (He doesn’t name his pigs.)

In his ninth year of showing pigs at the fair, Mason took home his first grand champion market pig banner and trophy, while younger brother, Tanner, 7, won grand champion pair with “Mister and Misses.”

The brothers agreed that showing pigs was a lot of fun.

Mason says pigs are easy to show. “They’re fun, smart and winning is all in how you feed them,” he says.

“I’m excited,” he said after his win. “This year gave me good experience.”

For youngest brother Tanner, the 2014 fair was the second time he’d shown pigs, and not only did he win with his pair of pigs but also he got a trophy as the first place youth showman.

The North Creek Elementary student said, “pigs are cool. They’re fun to walk and to show and you guide them by tapping them with a stick.”
