The Chelsea Bulldogs hosted the Tecumseh Indians on a beautiful Friday night and kept their undefeated season going strong with a huge 33-0 victory.

Tecumseh started with the ball and gambled on a 4th down and long deep in their own zone by calling a fake punt, which helped them pick up the first down and kept their drive alive. They moved the ball downfield and went for it, but Chelsea’s Patrick Bertoni out jumped the Indian receiver and made the interception in the end zone.

Chelsea took possession and moved the ball downfield, but couldn’t capitalize.

At the start of the second quarter, Gus Reynolds blasted through the Indians’ defense and made several great moves on his way to a 30-yard touchdown run and the first score of the night.

On a 4th and long, the Indians tried to convert, but the Bulldogs pulled them down for a loss and took over on downs. After a few great Jack Bush passes, it was Reynolds capping off the drive with a solid 6-yard run behind some great blocking.

Just a little over 30 seconds after Chelsea’s second score of the night, Tecumseh quarterback Alex Foss’ pass to Lukas Coker was intercepted by Cal Barrett who took it down the left side of the field for a 32-yard touchdown to give Chelsea a 20-0 lead at the half.

At the start of the second half, Chelsea drove the length of the field in 4 plays, which was capped off by Reynolds’ third touchdown of the night.

Several minutes later, it was Chelsea again driving the length of the field. After a great scramble run by Bush to the 1-yard line, it set up Drew Anstead’s 1-yard plunge for the score.

The Chelsea defense once again stood strong keeping the tough Indians team off the scoreboard and only allowing 169 total yards of offense. The defense had four sacks on the night, forced three fumbles, and two interceptions.

Chelsea was led by Owen Nikischer and Bertoni with eight tackles each.

Reynolds led Chelsea with 163 yards rushing on 17 attempts, for a 9.6 yard average. Reynolds had almost as many yards rushing as Tecumseh’s total offense.

Bush was 8 for 12 in passing with 66 yards. Cam Cooper led Chelsea in receiving with two catches for 27 yards. He had 35 yards rushing and 1 punt return for 28 yards and a 51-yard punt return for a touchdown that was negated by a penalty.

Chelsea is 5-0 on the season and 3-0 in the conference and will hit the road Friday, Sept. 30 to take on the Adrian Maples with kickoff set for 7 p.m.
