The final site plan for a new Chelsea Chevrolet Buick dealership was unanimously approved by the Sylvan Township Planning Commission on Thursday, Sept. 27.

The 15,000 square foot, one-story building (with a mezzanine for parts), will be located on 4.6 acres at 2038 McKernan Road.

“There will be about 15,000 square feet for a repair facility, which is double what we have now,” said Al Harvey, general manager of Grass Lake Chevrolet-Buick dealership.

There will also be a 10,000-square-foot auto dealership, which is also double the space of the current dealership on M-52 in Chelsea.

“We plan to have the building enclosed by the middle of December,” said Emil Magier, executive manager of the Chelsea dealership.

And, it’s expected that the dealership will be finished by June 2013, they said. It will be a “castle-block building in approved GM colors.”

They plan to expand the dealership’s used car business and have a 15-minute Quick Lube as well.

The two dealership officials began looking for a larger site in February 2011 and the preliminary site plan was approved by the Planning Commission on May 10, 2012. Ground was previously broken for the building footings.

A new well will be installed for potable water in the southwest corner of the property and the current well will be used for non-potable activities such as washing cars.

“The site plans have had significant revisions during the last month,” said Bob Polens, chairman of the Planning Commission, before the planners discussed and voted on the most recent set of plans.

The Planning Commission approved the final site plan contingent upon a final letter of review of the Sept. 17 plans from the township’s planner and engineer.
