The Chelsea District Library (CDL) Board met on Tuesday, July 21, and announced that the 2016 budget hearing will take place on Tuesday, Aug. 18 at 6:45 p.m. in the McKune Room. It will be held in conjunction with the regularly scheduled monthly board meeting.

The meeting is open to everyone interested in the process and people are encouraged to attend.

The proposed 2016 budget totals about $1.796 million, and according to the CDL website, the approved 2015 budget is about $1.757 million.

CDL Board Secretary Gary Zenz said that the search for the new director is under way, and there is a link on the CDL website home page for folks to check for updates on the search.

The executive search firm of John Keister and Associates has been retained, and there is also a link on the search update page for the people to contact the search firm directly to comment on the process.

The CDL’s inaugural professional exchange program has come to an end, and Nosiviwe “Vidie” Lutuli has returned home to South Africa. In an email sent to the library after she returned home, Vidie wrote “I miss you guys already, and I hope you find a nice director like Bill. If he/she doesn’t like Coney dogs or beer, then that’s not a good director.”

In other news, the July 11 Friends of Chelsea District Library used book sale raised $752. There will be another used book sale in the library basement from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, July 25, to coincide with the Summer Festival.
