Representatives for the 2014 Large Business Leadership Award and the 2014 Small Business Leadership Award were equally as surprised when representatives from the Chelsea Area Chamber of Commerce arrived at the library at 8:30 a.m Friday morning.

Library Director Bill Harmer said he wondered who was tromping up the front stairs before library hours.

“This is amazing,” he said, after the surprise announcement was made during a staff meeting. “It shows the economic impact that libraries have on the community.”

And, to be honest, he said a lot more than that about the benefits of libraries, but it all became a blur when representatives from the chamber surprised me as well.

Chelsea Update was chosen as the 2014 Small Business Leadership Award winner and with that announcement, everything else got lost in the moment.

(Sorry, Bill. I promise to get a more comprehensive quote from you later when I do a full story about the awards and banquet.)

  1. Congratulations to all at Chelsea District Library and Chelsea Update! Your awards are well-deserved.

  2. Congratulations, Lisa! I hope I don’t embarrass you with this remark, but you are a community treasure!

  3. Great job library. And great job Lisa!

HELLO READERS… Remember that Chelsea Update is not only Lisa’s passion, but it’s also her paycheck. See that button at the top of this page that says “Donate”? How about it? Show your appreciation for a job well done!

  4. Letter to the Editor (don’t you miss reading those?!!):

I want to echo the Congrats to the Chelsea District Library and Lisa A./ Chelsea Update !!

John Frank – yes, Lisa is a Community Treasure. We are so lucky to have Lisa’s expertise in journalism to keep us all up-to-date on her online source. With so many Chelsea folk becoming unhappy/unsatisfied with the available print media, we are fortunate to have Chelseaupdate.com.

Having worked at the Chamber for 7 years, I saw from the inside how valuable the library and staff are to our community. I witnessed the birth of Chelseaupdate.com and I felt as if Lisa was a partner in our service to the Chelsea Community along with becoming a friend. Business Leaders such as these winners are part and parcel to why the small City of Chelsea is a special place to live, work, and recreate.
Stephanie – nice reminder to donate.
