The Chelsea Field Hockey team lost two games this week in heartbreaking fashion, both 1-0 losses.

Last Monday, they travelled to Ann Arbor Skyline and played under the lights. Skyline came in a bit overconfident though as they thought they could coast to an easy victory, but Chelsea had other plans.

Chelsea started strong keeping control of the ball in Skylines’ zone and the Chelsea defense did a great job keeping Skyline scoreless. Skyline peppered Chelsea’s Payton Doan with shot after shot but she came up big with several highlight reel worthy saves. She had help from her team as Madalyn Allen and Gabby Noble stepped in to make great player saves.

With the score tied 0-0 and time winding down Skyline found the goal off a penalty corner and took a 1-0 lead. The score would stay that way with Chelsea losing a hard fought battle.

Doan faced 26 shots and Skyline had the advantage of 6 penalty corners in the game.

Last Wednesday, Chelsea played host to the Marian Mustangs from West Bloomfield. The Mustangs came in with only 2 losses on the season, both to top ranked teams. But Chelsea doesn’t look at records and was confident they could put up a battle and eke out a victory.

The Mustangs jumped out in front early, less than a two minutes into the game when they were able to take advantage and get the ball past Doan. But the Chelsea defense tightened up and although Marian put a lot of pressure and shots on Doan, none made it through as she made save after spectacular save.

Chelsea was unable to capitalize and tie up the game on there only awarded penalty corner but they were able to stave off any other goals being scored on Marians’ 7 penalty corners and 16 shots on goal.

Chelsea fought hard against the tough competition but bowed out with another heartbreaking 1-0 loss, it’s second in a matter of days.

Chelsea will travel to Saline tonight at 7 p.m. where they will take on the 8-3-1 Hornets.
