Chelsea freshman football remains undefeated after 38-37 thriller over Holt

(Chelsea Update would like to thank Dennis Strzyzewski for the information in this story.)

The Chelsea freshman football team moved to 8-0 by going to Holt and winning a thriller by the score of 38-37.

Holt scored on the first play of the game to go up 7-0. Chelsea fumbled on the next drive and Holt capitalized with a quick touchdown. Chelsea then drove down and scored on a 5-yard run to cut the score to 14-7.

But Holt struck again on a long run and went up 21-7, and that is how the game stood at halftime.

On the first drive of the second half, Chase Kemp hit Tyler Valik for 60-yard TD pass.  Chelsea recovered an onside kick on the ensuing kick and then Joe Taylor hit Valik on a 40-yard halfback pass. After Logan Vaughn caused a fumble which Chelsea recovered, Kemp hit Valik for a 50-yard score, which put Chelsea up 28-21.

Holt answered with a long drive to tie the game at 28, then got two more points on a safety on the next drive. Following the kick off from the 20, Holt scored 3 plays later to go up 37-28 half way through the 4th quarter.

Chelsea drove down to the Holt 7-yard line, and got a field goal from Jacob Parker.

Down 37-28 with just under 3 minutes left, Chelsea recovered another on-side kick, and six plays later, A.J. Tokarski scored from 9 yards out to tie the game.  Parker added the extra point to give Chelsea the 38-37 win.

“The most exciting freshman game I have ever been a part of for sure,” said coach Dennis Strzyzewski. “I am so proud of how our kids just keep competing even when things are not going well.”

“Holt is big, physical and really good on both sides of the ball. Our kids had to fight and scratch and create some breaks to give us a shot. They did exactly what successful people do when they are in a tough situation. They battled as hard as they could.”

Chelsea next plays at home vs. Laingsburg on Thursday at 6:30 p.m.
