The Chelsea freshman football team ran its record to 5-1 with a 50-14 win at Adrian Thursday night.

Quinn Starkey and Austin Lyles combined to throw for 220 yards and 2 touchdowns in the game. Alex Pastor and Drew Lewis had TD catches for the Bulldogs. Aaron McDaniels had 3 TD runs and Nick Scritchfield added a 5-yard run for Chelsea. Jake Seitz added a 50-yard interception return for a score in the game.

Dane Zorn accounted for over 150 yards in punt return yardage, which really set the offense up in great field position.

Defensively, Dion Mite, Cooper Mattson, Nick Scritchfield, Griffin Bell, Nick Christian, and Doug Zarinnia all played really strong games.

“We are starting to play hard consistently,” said coach Dennis Strzyzewski. “That will always be the key. There is enough talent to be successful if we compete hard and play smart, but as soon as we relax that’s when we are in trouble.”

He said, “It was awesome to see the kids get excited for each other’s successes. Hopefully, they are starting to realize that this is not about any individual. They are part of something bigger than themselves.”

Chelsea next plays at home against Ypsilanti.
