The Chelsea girls golf team got league play underway, as they hosted Ann Arbor Huron and Ann Arbor Skyline on Monday, Aug. 17 at Reddeman Farms.

It wasn’t a great outing for us, as reflected by our scores, said Coach Joe Ewald. “It’s early in our season, and I know we will improve,” he said.

Skyline shot 196, followed by Huron at 199. Chelsea shot 250.

Scoring for the Bulldogs were Rose Sanville with 57, Maggie Duve 62, Maddie Vasquez shot a 63, and Katelyn McKinley had a 68.

On Wednesday Aug. 19, the Girls traveled to Brookside Golf Course, for a match with the two strongest teams in the conference — Saline and Ann Arbor Pioneer.

“We knew winning the match would be a stretch, so our focus was on improving,” Ewald said.

Chelsea shot a score of 208, an improvement of 42 shots from Monday’s round. Maddie Vasquez led the way with a 49, followed by Rose Sanville with a 50, Maggie Duve had a 52, and Mackenzie Benning shot a 57.

A highlight of the day was Mackenzie Benning, after a perfect drive on the par 4 second hole, knocked her 2nd shot in the cup from about 20 yards out for an Eagle 2.

Saline beat Pioneer, as both teams shot incredible scores of 159 and 162, respectively.
