The Chelsea girls swim and dive team officially started the competition season as they traveled to Waverly High School in Lansing for the Howard Comstock Relay meet.

With 12 teams in attendance, Chelsea finished in third place overall with 177 points. St. Johns won the meet with 213 points followed by Dewitt with 207 points.

The 200 medley relay team set the pace for the meet with a third place finish in 2:03.09. The team consisted of Jordan Fannin, Camden Dammeyer, Sydney Hodel and Rachel Valek. In the 400 free relay, the team of Valek, Hodel, Taylor Brodbeck and Jamie Wurster narrowly missed the division 3 state meet qualifying time (3:56.29) when they touched in 3:56.38, which was still good enough for a second place finish.

In the 200 breaststroke relay, Dammeyer, Molly Olk, Clara Nelsen and Wurster took third place with a final time of 2:25.61.

The lone first place relay for the Bulldogs came in the 200 butterfly relay, with the team of Dammeyer, Brodbeck, Meryl McDonnell and Hodel beating out St. Johns in 1:56.22.

The girls will be in the pool again on Tuesday, Sept. 1 at 6 p.m. when they host Pinckney at Beach Middle School.
