Chelsea girl’s swimming 3-0 on season, finishes second in recent invitational

After swimming their dual meet record to 3-0 ( beating Milan and Bedford last week), the Lady Bulldog Swim and Dive Team traveled to the DeWitt Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 20 and split into two teams.

The gold team scored 345 points and tied for second with host DeWitt, while nearly defeating defending champion Northview, which finished with 368 points. The blue team ended up 7th with 215 points.

In the 200 medley relay, the gold team of Emmah Boquette, Camden Dammeyer, Sydney Hodel and Jamie Wurster took fourth in 2:02.33, while the blue team of Jordan Fannin, Clare Dettling, Maria Elie and Chloe Millard took sixth in 2:18.75. The distance duo of Taylor Brodbeck in 2:12.16 and Lauren Olk in 2:12.98 swam well enough to earn fourth and fifth place.

Dammeyer swam a third place finish for the gold team in 2:26.42, while Dettling finished with a 2:48.54 for the blue team. In addition, the Bulldog divers dove well enough for Lily Francisco to earn third (194.45) and Hannah Almhiemid to place seventh (135.05).

In the second half of the meet, Hodel posted a 1:08.21 second place finish in the 100 butterfly, with Meryl McDonnell touching in 1:09.94. Rachel Valek and Wurster again led the charge in the 100 freestyle taking second in 58.22 and fifth in 59.62. Once more, the distance event was controlled by Brodbeck and Lauren Olk, taking second in 5:53.87 and third in 5:54.20.

The 200-freestyle relay team finished in 1:48.99, with the team of Wurster, McDonnell, Brodbeck and Valek taking second. Valek again led the Bulldogs in the 100 backstroke with a third place finish in 1:07.13, while Boquette swam to fourth in 1:07.83.

In the 100 breaststroke, Dammeyer touched second in 1:15.17 to lead the team. Chelsea finished strong in the 400 freestyle relay by taking first place with the team of Dammeyer, Valek, Brodbeck and Hodel in 3:57.60.

The Bulldogs will next host the Ypsilanti Grizzlies on Thursday, Sept. 25.
