Chelsea Girls’ track and Field: depth propels Bulldogs to victory over Adrian, 77-60

Chelsea Girls’ Track and Field stepped up again at their last dual meet of the season and came away with a 77-60 victory over a very talented Adrian squad.

What propelled Chelsea to the win was the team’s depth.

The team finishes the regular season dual and tri-meets with a record of 4-2.

There were nine personal records (PRs) at the meet.

  • Jenna Gileczek PRed in the pole vault with a height of 10′ 10″
  • Ailish Joyce improved in the high jump by clearing 4′ 2″
  • Hailey Neal and Riley Thorburn both improved in the long jump by jumping 15′ 1 1/2″ and 13′ 11″, respectively
  • Hailey Neal also improved her time 100m dash by half a second (13.57)
  • Kaehla Manly turned in a PR in the 100m hurdles with a time of 17.54
  • Myranda Montoye ran the 200m dash in 27.73 (an improvement of one second) and 400m dash in a time of 62.27 (a half second faster than her previous best time).
  • Allison Hause in the 800m run improved her time in the event by 13 seconds (2:33.22)

The Lady Bulldogs had seven first-place finishes:

  • Jordan Holton in the shot put and 1st in the discus
  • Jenna Gileczek in the pole vault
  • Riley Thorburn in the 1600m run
  • 4×800 relay (Riley Thorburn, Jacquelin Taylor, Emily Chizek, and Allison Hause)
  • Kaehla Manly in the 300m hurdles
  • Emily Chizek in the 3200m run
  • 4x400m relay (Kaehla Manly, Sydney Matusik, Riley Thorburn, and Myranda Montoye).

On Friday, May 11, the team heads to Siena Heights College for the SEC Final Meet.

“We will be striving to compete hard and see where we finally place among the SEC White teams (Adrian, Dexter, Lincoln, Pinckney, Tecumseh, and Ypsilanti Community),” Thorburn said.

The meet begins at 11:30 a.m. with girls’ pole vault followed by other field events at noon.
