The Chelsea girls’ track and field team finished with split results on May 1.

The Lady Bulldogs defeated Tecumseh 82-55 but lost to Pinckney 73-64.

“We went against two tough teams,” coach Loren Thorburn said adding that the girls won five field events.

The 4×800 (Emily Chizek, Allison Hause, Thorburn, Sydney Matusik), 4×200 (Sydney Matusik, Hailey Neal, Myranda Montoye, and Kaehla Manly), and 4×400 (Kaehla Manly, Riley Thorburn, Alilish Joyce, Myranda Montoye) relays earned 1st place finishes in competition.

Individually, he said, “We had standout performances by Sydney Matusik in the 200m and 400m dashes (1st place finishes) and Kaehla Manly in the 300m hurdles (1st place finishes).

Junior Jordan Holton continues to earn top place finishes in the shot and discus. Allison Hause ran two hard races in the 1600m and 3200m runs to earn top places.

“We will continue to build on our experiences as we begin to head into the Championship weeks (SEC finals and regionals). I am pleased by our growth as a team. This is a special group of young ladies,” Thorburn said.
