Chelsea golf season underway

(Chelsea Update would like to thank Joe Ewald for the information in this story.)

The Chelsea Golf Team had its first match of the season when they hosted Pontiac Notre Dame Prep on April 12, at Inverness Country Club.

Last year, the team finished sixth in the state and they finished seventh, however, the Bulldogs only have one of its top 5 players returning from last year and Notre Dame had all 5 on the course.

“We knew we would be in for a very tough match, but I like the idea of a strong test early in the year, to see where we’re at,” said coach Joe Ewald.

Notre Dame Prep won the match, 156 to 168.

The low score for the Bulldogs was Lucas Derosia, with a fine, even par round of 36. Next was Preston Ewald with a 43, Kurt Jolly had a 44, and Ben Brannon and Tyler Emmert, each shot a 45.

“We had a couple big numbers down the stretch that need to be eliminated, to compete at our level of expectation,” the coach said, adding, “It wouldn’t have changed the outcome, but we could have made the match much closer.”
