Chelsea High School boys golf season finally underway

After a very difficult and frustrating early spring, with only 9 holes of practice under our belt, the Chelsea Golf Team finally got its season under way last week.

On Wednesday, April 16 with snow still covering Tecumseh Country Club, (the scheduled venue), the match was moved at the last minute to Raisin Valley Golf Course. Unfortunately, the move didn’t work out too well for the Bulldog, as Tecumseh won the Match 172 to 189.

Scoring for Chelsea was Teddy Darr with a 46, JJ Duncan 46, Sean Lyons 48 and Joe Slusser with a 49.

The course was not difficult, but it was tricky, and we didn’t do a very good job of managing the course, as we racked up far too many penalty strokes.  We had some very encouraging scores from our JV team, as they won their match by 41 shots.

On Thursday April 17, the Bulldogs traveled to Leslie Park Golf Course for a Match against Ann Arbor Huron and Ann Arbor Skyline. The team improved 10 shots from the day before, which is encouraging, but couldn’t compete with the Ann Arbor squads.

Huron posted a score of 160 (which is a good high school score) and Skyline shot 148.

A score of 148, (with scores of 35, 36, 37, and 40) is a great high school score.

Scoring for Chelsea was Sean Lyons and Jacob Hauser with a pair of 43s, JJ Duncan 46, and Teddy Darr with a 47.

“With another promising showing by the JV team, I expect to see a lot of movement in the varsity line up as we go forward and continue to improve,” the coach said.
