The Chelsea High School varsity lacrosse team defeated Ypsilanti Lincoln, 9-6, on April 16. The team is now 3-1 for the season and 1-0 in the league.

“We played a great first half, having a 6-1 lead at half time,” said Joe Koengeter. “Offensively, we moved the ball very well and were very unselfish as the majority of the goals were assisted, we were making the extra pass to get a better shot on goal.”

Defensively, the coach said, “We played outstanding in the first half allowing very few shots and only giving up 1 goal.”

He said the third quarter was more of the same but the team slowed down some on offense only scoring one goal and giving up 2 goals.

During the fourth quarter, the Bulldogs “picked things up again putting up 2 more goals before Lincoln was able to make a late run,” the coach said.

There was some defensive break downs which led to giving up 3 goals at the end of the game.

Lincoln scored with 1:54, 1:39, and 1:29 left in the game.

“We were able to get a defensive stop after that and run the clock out,” Koengeter said, adding, “ I am very happy with the win and the way we played last night except for the 1 minute break down at the end of the game.”
