Chelsea Human Rights Commission adopts complaint form, tables by-laws

By Lisa Carolin

The Chelsea Human Rights Commission welcomed a new member at its June 7 meeting.

She is Betsy Voshel, who was recently approved by the Chelsea City Council. She replaces Tammy Stiles Beechey, who moved out of the City of Chelsea.

At the June 7 meeting, the commission unanimously voted (Lynn Fox absent) to approve a complaint form. The form mimics the non-discrimination ordinance passed by the City Council. The form now goes to the City Council for discussion and a vote.

The commission tabled finalizing its by-laws. They’ve been discussing the topic at the last couple meetings and are using the City of Ann Arbor’s by-laws as a model, making changes that they feel are more applicable to Chelsea.

The commission is expected to take action to approve the by-laws at its next meeting on June 21.
