Chelsea Human Rights Commission works on revised bylaws

By Lisa Carolin

Because the Chelsea City Council did not approve the Human Rights Commission’s bylaws at its last meeting, the HRC was forced to table consideration of a complaint at its Aug. 16 meeting.

HRC members expressed some dismay at the meeting regarding some of the changes city council members plan to make to the HRC’s proposed bylaws.

HRC members spent part of the meeting making a list of the council changes that they do not agree with, mostly regarding language adjustments under the Articles of Purpose, Objectives and Duties, Membership, and Ethics and Conflicts of Interest.

Members agreed to schedule a special HRC meeting for Wednesday, Aug. 23 at 5:30 p.m. to prepare an updated version of its bylaws to present at the Sept. 5 city council meeting.

HRC members also worked on a survey that they are creating for the public, which will also be discussed at the Aug. 23 meeting.
