(Chelsea Update would like to thank coach Chris Orlandi for the information in this story.)
The season opener went well for the JV football Bulldogs with a 34-15 win over Grand Rapids Northview.
Chris Roush led the way with 3 TDs for Chelsea scoring on a 53-yard run in the 1st half and a 30-yard catch and run in the 2nd half.
Cal Barrett opened the scoring in the first half with a 17-yard TD run late in the 1st quarter to put Chelsea up 6-0. After Roush’s score in the 2nd quarter, Callum Krause went 48 yards on a reverse for a TD that put the Bulldogs up 20-0.
The Chelsea defense was outstanding throughout the contest, but surrendered a score late in the 1st half to cut the lead to 20-8. After Roush scored his 3rd quarter TD to make the score 27-8, Chelsea used a trick play to set up its final score.
Quarterback Drew Anstead threw a strike to wideout Alex Vasquez, who lateraled the ball back to Cal Barrett. Barrett ran the ball for 35 yards down to the Northview 5-yard line. Roush ran the ball in from there for the Bulldogs’ final score of the night.
Defensively, Nick Koch played an outstanding game at linebacker. Travis Frazier had a nice QB sack and Cash Shegan recovered a Northview fumble.
Chelsea will travel to Belleville Thursday for a 6:30 kickoff.
