The final site plan for the Chelsea Retirement Center Wellness Center and Pool was approved with contingencies by a unanimous vote of the Chelsea Planning Commission at its Nov. 15 meeting.
Among the contingencies were: a lighting plan, a landscape plan and a schematic drawing for the facade of the four-story building plan.
The preliminary site plan that was previously approved fixed the layout of building, streets, drives, and parking areas, while the final site plan approved additional items including utilities, grading and building design.
City Engineer Christine Linfield asked for clarity in the demolition plan of the four-story wing of the Glazier/Benson Building, specifically to know what will be built in that place.
Bob Overhiser, owner of the Architect Design Group, showed slides of schematic drawings including the two-story building that will be the Wellness Center.
John Parker of Elzinga and Volkers Construction Professionals, said that the plan is to commence with razing the Glazier wing in April 2017 and then construction of the Wellness Center would take until February 2018 when it is expected to open.
Tom Covert of Midwest Consulting, described the Wellness Center as including a swimming pool and an indoor walking path. He told the commission that they are preparing preliminary site plans for the renovation of Glazier.
In other action, the planning commission voted to accept the 2017 planning meeting and work sessions schedules for 2017. All meetings will take place in the city of Chelsea Council Chambers at 311 S. Main Street.
Meetings are held the third Tuesday of each month at 7 p.m., unless they conflict with a city council meeting. The exceptions in 2017 will be on Jan. 18 and Feb. 22, when the meetings will be held on the third Wednesday of those months.
