Chelsea Police asking for your help in hit-and-run case

Chelsea Police Chief Ed Toth asked anyone with information about a hit-and-run accident that took place last week in the city to contact the police department.

The accident took place on Jan. 17 at about 5:15 p.m. at Madison and Middle streets in the city.

Toth said Monday night at the Chelsea City Council meeting that police are looking for a black Jeep Liberty with front-end damage. And, anyone with information can call Chelsea police at 475-9122 and either speak to the dispatcher or be transferred to the anonymous tip line.

He said the vehicle traveled east on Dexter-Chelsea Road following the accident.

Toth also told the City Council that in December, officers responded to 310 calls for service. There were 50 traffic stops and 31 citations were written. In addition, 19 verbal warnings were given.

Chelsea Police currently have 29 open cases that are under investigation. Of the 29 cases, 17 are at the Washtenaw County Prosecutor’s Office under review and four are waiting analysis at the state crime lab.
