Chelsea police joined Northfield, EMU, U-M, and the Washtenaw County Sheriff’s Office for the annual event that is organized by Sgt. Keith Flores.

He said there were 17-18 children from Chelsea who took part in the event that brings early Christmas cheer to children who might not otherwise have a festive holiday.

He said about 95 children took part this year and in addition to the highlight of the event, a $125 shopping spree, the participants ate pizza, fruit and chips, drank soda or water, met Santa, decorated cookies, and played games. Among the other items they received were a T-shirt, hat, gloves. blanket, backpack, socks, underwear, coat, a stocking with a letter from Santa as well as gas gift cards for an adult.

In all, about $300 was spent on each child thanks to community, small business and corporate donations.
