The Kiwanis Club of Chelsea, in its 91st year, holds a weekly meeting on Monday nights at 6:15 p.m. in the St. Joseph Mercy-Chelsea cafeteria.

Monday’s meeting is Scout Recognition Night, and the Kiwanis Club recognizes and supports all the Girl and Boy Scouts in Chelsea every year at about this time.

“It is a very special evening where each pack and each troop get to give the audience some of the highlights of their past year’s activities and plans for the current year,” says Bob Milbrodt. “Many of them mention their favorite events, like a camping trip or a service project. It is heartwarming to see some of the Scouts speaking so well in front of a large crowd. “

He says that Kiwanis “heartily encourages Scouting’s character-building efforts for these young people.  The fourth object of Kiwanis is to develop, by precept and example, a more intelligent, aggressive, and serviceable citizenship.”

Scouting in Chelsea, he says, continues to do that year after year.

The speakers typically begin at 6:45 p.m., and everyone is invited to the meetings to learn about Kiwanis.
