Chelsea softball: 25-5-1

On Thursday, May 17, the Chelsea softball team along with Dexter hosted Grass Lake and Eaton Rapids in its annual quad.

In game one, the Lady Bulldogs played Grass Lake and jumped out to an early 4-run lead after Maddie Vasquez hit a two-run double in the first inning.

Chelsea scored 2 more in the second inning after several Grass Lake miscues.  Grass Lake scored single runs in both the third and fifth innings.

Chelsea scored a single run in the fifth to bring the score to 5-2.  After a scoreless sixth, Grass Lake rallied in the top of the seventh scoring 3 runs on 4 hits to tie the score at five at the end of regulation.

In the eighth, Grass Lake was unable to score and Chelsea took advantage of Grass Lake mistakes to take the victory 6-5.

Chelsea was led by pitcher Maddie Kemp who threw 8 innings surrendering 9 hits, 5 earned runs, while striking out 10 to earn her 16th win of the season.  Offensively Maddie Vasquez led the Lady Bulldogs with 2 hits and 2 RBI’s, while Sydnee Liedel also contributed a hit and RBI in the contest.

In game two, Chelsea played Eaton Rapids who came into the contest with a 26-4 record. Eaton Rapids took advantage of 13 hits and four Chelsea miscues to defeat the Bulldogs, 10-5.

Offensively Chelsea was led by Sydney Hines and Maddie Kemp who both went 2 for 4 at the plate.  Alise Hale, Peighton Root and Stephanie Dark also contributed hits and RBI’s in the contest.

The loss ran Chelsea’s record to 25-5-1 on the season.
