(Publisher’s note: If you go to a Chelsea City Council meeting and John Pappas is there, be sure to take a peek at the designs he creates based on the meeting proceedings. They are incredible. I enjoy sitting near him to watch them come to life.)

12 Acre Studio opened in 2014 near Chelsea at 19600 Island Lake Road.

The owner, John Pappas, describes it as both a graphic design and advertising company.

For the last 18 months, Pappas says he’s had a steady amount of work from a range of businesses.

“We have a varied array of clients including local businesses here in Chelsea, as well as regional work from Kalamazoo and Detroit,” said Pappas, who adds that 12 Acre Studio has ongoing work from clients in Atlanta, Orlando, and San Francisco. “Each of these clients was generated from past work relationships and word of mouth.”

Pappas especially enjoys doing work for local clients.

“I’m able to see the work that I do in local publications, as well as seeing it posted in local businesses,” he said. “It’s always satisfying to actually see the design work we’ve produced locally.”

12 Acre Studio’s clients range from corporations to small businesses and occasionally individuals. Most of the work is for print and online outlets, though his work has appeared everywhere from art galleries to magazines to television.

Pappas describes his work as, “Prompt, reliable and unexpected graphic design solutions for our clients.“

12 Acre Studio has also begun to produce and sell letterpress notecards, which are available on Etsy.com.

“We have a showing of portraits on display at the University of Michigan Hospital (main lobby, floor 2) from Dec. 18 through March 11, 2018,” said Pappas. “In addition, we have a series of drawings of University of Michigan Football Legends for sale in the Museum Store at the University of Michigan Museum of Art.”
