(Chelsea Update is running a series on businesses in Chelsea beginning with businesses that belong to the Chelsea Area Chamber of Commerce, and this week it’s Waterloo Gardens Bed and Breakfast.)

For more than 10 years, folks who want to visit the Chelsea area have had the option of lodging at the Waterloo Gardens Bed and Breakfast. It’s located north of town on Werkner Road, at the edge of the Waterloo Recreation Area.

“We have seen couples get engaged here and then later come back with families,” said Gary Offenbacher, who owns the bed and breakfast with his wife, Lourdeen, who have been in Michigan for 18 years after moving from the Washington, D.C. area. “Much of our business is referral or have stayed at our B and B in the past.”

Waterloo Gardens offers three guest rooms, including two that can be combined into  a two-bedroom suite.

“Our incredible gardens and spacious deck allow a tranquil respite from the worries of life,” said Gary Offenbacher.

He says that many of their guests come to the area to visit friends or relatives as well as to catch a play at the Purple Rose Theatre.

“We like the people in Chelsea and the strong sense of community,” said Offenbacher. “We are longtime members of the chamber, and I especially like to volunteer for the Sights and Sounds Festival.”
