The Chelsea Volleyball team won the Skyline Invitational on Oct. 10 defeating Saint Mary’s Catholic Central in the finals for their first tournament win of the season.

The team started off splitting the first match in pool play. “Our defense was very sketchy,” said coach Laura Cleveland. “We were moving slow and not reading properly. The girls were able to turn that around over the next matches and were really playing well going into the quarterfinals.”

The coach said, “Overall, there was better communication and passing. We were able to get into a great flow offensively. Our middle blockers and right side blockers really made strides in being consistent and closing the block. We really caused the other hitters to make adjustments due to having hands in their face the whole match. I was happy with seeing that on a consistent basis during the tournament.”

Cleveland said, “I am proud of the girls for making changes that have helped us get better. It is a great group of girls who are starting to hit their stride as a team.”
