(Publisher’s note: I don’t know about you, but I’m like a little kid on Christmas morning. I can’t wait for tonight, and all the fun things taking place to kick off the three days of Hometown Holiday.)

It’s Hometown Holiday weekend and Chelsea will be aglow with luminaries lighting the way for the arrival of Santa Claus on a fire truck to Pierce Park during the annual Christmas tree lighting, which begins at 6 p.m. and ends about 6:30 p.m.

In fact, luminaries will line Main Street from 6-8 p.m., both tonight and Saturday night – thanks to Santa’s elves, the girl scouts and the cub scouts.

From 6:30-8:30 p.m., you can visit with Santa at his workshop in The Depot at 125 Jackson St., and make crafts. This event is sponsored by the Chelsea Children’s Co-op.

The Common Chords concert takes place from 7-8 p.m. in the Chelsea District Library in the McKune Room.

A live Nativity Scene will take place from 7:30-8 p.m., and from 8-8:30 p.m., next to Chelsea First United Methodist Church at 128 Park St. Included are live animals and a community-wide Christmas choir.

You won’t want to miss an opportunity to decorate cookies, either. This takes place from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at the ATA Martial Arts at 430 North Main St., around the corner from the Chelsea teddy Bear Company.

There will be story telling from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at Chelsea Farmer’s Supply, across from The Depot at 122 Jackson St.

CAP Youth Theatre will present “It’s a Wonderful Life” tonight Saturday night at 7:30 p.m. and on Sunday, Dec. 8 at 2:30 p.m. at the Washington Street Education Center, 512 E. Washington St.

Hometown Holiday proudly participates in Toys for Tots and Teens. Drop off your new unwrapped toy at the Chelsea Chamber of Commerce office inside Palmer Auto, 222 South Main St.
