The Beach Middle School gymnasium was a popular place to be the evening of Thursday, June 15, when 193 students celebrated the completion of eighth grade along with family, friends and school staff.

“This class is a fun bunch that has an interesting mix of academic, athletic and artistic flair,” said Beach Principal Nick Angel. “Our eighth-grade students will be severely missed and I look forward to seeing them soar over the next four years at Chelsea High School.”

Angel, along with Assistant Principal Matt Ceo, and honored educator Loren Thorburn spoke at the ceremony for the staff. The student speakers were Owen Smith, class president, and Maddie Dunlap, vice president.

The high temperature and humidity outside kept things quite warm in the gymnasium, but the mood remained upbeat.

A dance with a DJ followed the ceremony with food and desserts donated by eighth-grade families.

“The dance was a blast, and as I have shared with many staff, probably the most fun we have had since I have been principal at Beach Middle School,” said Angel. “I will miss the Class of 2021.”
