Ryan Kimball, who graduated from Chelsea High School in 2014, took a different path into the Air Force than three other recent Bulldogs.

He wanted to become a firefighter in the military and went to basic training in Lackland, Texas.

Ryan graduated from Air Force Basic Training and is now training for Air Force Fire Protection, said Jane Kimball, Ryan’s mom and has a 6-year commitment.

“Ever since Ryan was little, he was very interested in firefighting,” she said. “His father is also a firefighter, so he spent a lot of time at the fire house.”

Kimball says that it was hard for her and for Ryan’s dad to send him off to basic training.

“I knew he was following his dream, so that helped me stay positive,” said Kimball. “We wrote him a lot of letters and did a lot of praying.”

She says it’s been a good experience for Ryan and that he has no regrets.

“Even though I still worry about him sometimes, I am certain this was the right decision for him, and we are very happy for him,” said Kimball.”
