Crisis counseling available following passing of high school student

Below is the notification sent by Chelsea High School Principal Michael Kapolka.

Good afternoon Bulldogs students and parents. It is with a very heavy heart that I am sending this email to you today.

I received notification this morning that one of our Chelsea High School students passed away yesterday evening. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends of this student. The family has not released the student’s name to the public and we will respect their privacy.

As we know this loss will impact our school community, our Crisis Team met this morning to put in place a plan of support for our students and families.

Starting tomorrow, Saturday, Feb. 17 from 9 a.m.-noon and on Sunday, Feb. 18 from noon-3 p.m., we will have grief counselors available at the WSEC Board room for students, staff and families to meet and speak with.

When we return to school on Tuesday, Feb. 20, we will have additional counseling supports in place in the Commons, Media Center and Counseling office to support our students and staff.

Members of our Crisis Response Team are available to meet with students individually or in groups in the coming days and weeks. Please contact the school office if you feel your child is in need of additional assistance.

Thank you for your support, compassion and understanding.

Michael J. Kapolka
