DDA board to review budget at May 4 special meeting

The Chelsea Downtown Development Authority Board voted to hold a special meeting to discuss the 2017-18 budget on Thursday, May 4 at 7:30 a.m. in the Chelsea City Council chambers.

In addition, at the April 20 meeting, City Manger John Hanifan said he met with representatives from M.C. Smith Associates and Architectural Group regarding the upcoming Palmer (lot) Event Space project and with the 45-day referendum period expired for the proposed bonds to construct the project, it’s expected that it will be bid out early next month.

On Monday, the City Council unanimously approved an amended DDA plan and tax increment financing plan, which includes all the components of this project, some of which will also need Planning Commission approval.

The city hopes to begin construction on May 29 and have the project completed by Sept. 22 according to the planning and construction schedule.

“I’m very excited about this project,” Hanifan said.

Spring means the DDA’s annual walk-through of the downtown where members take an inventory of what needs to be spruced up, mulched, or fixed — items such as landscape pruning, painting, and/or any curb or sidewalk repairs, which may be needed.
