Donkey and alpaca at Chelsea Community Fair Nature’s Creation of Life barn

You’ll see donkey at the Chelsea Community Fair Nature’s Creation of Life barn.

Donkeys, beef calves, hatching eggs, a mare and foal, and kids and chicks are among the line-up of baby animals you’ll find in the Nature’s Creation of Life barn.

Found up the hill from the Main Arena and the ice cream parlor, the red barn will be full says first-year superintendent Cindy Benedict.

She says there will be volunteers on hand to answer visitor’s questions and the Washtenaw County Farm Bureau will have its wonderful booth filled with educational materials. In addition to volunteers to answer questions, there will be a trivia game there, too, Benedict says.

“I hope people learn something new about an animal,” she says.

Also back is the popular sheep shearing demonstration that will take place on Friday and Saturday. Adam Roehm from Saline will be doing the honors this year on Friday evening at about 5:30 or 6 p.m. and then again on Saturday at 4 and 6 p.m.

Alpaca, piglets, donkeys and maybe even a few ducklings are also expected.

Would you like to learn to milk a cow? There will be a wooden milking cow for you to give it a squeeze.

What about becoming the face of a popular farm animal, say a cow? You can do that, too.

Expect printed information about the animals on display but don’t be afraid to ask questions.

And, as a reminder, there will be hand sanitizer stations available in the barn so please wash your hands before you leave and do not bring food or drink inside the barn.

Barn hours are Tuesday, Aug. 21 from 4-10, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, Aug. 22-24 from noon until 10 p.m. and on Saturday from 4-10 p.m.

Benedict also wants to thank Sue Rodgers and Sarah Patrias for their assistance in securing the wide variety of animals that will be on hand.

You’ll find lambs at the Nature’s Creation of Life.
